Segment of Highway 12 Closing Monday!

Starting Monday, April 18th a segment of Highway 12 will be CLOSED!

On Monday, April 18, we will close Highway 12 between County Road 90 and the south leg of County Road 92. The north leg of County Road 92 will remain closed. Both closures will be in place until fall.

There will be a significant amount of work happening in this area. The closure will allow our crews to safely and efficiently:

  • replace a culvert and underground utilities,
  • excavate and grade to support new roadway, including a mile-long stretch of Highway 12
  • construct the new County Road 92 roundabout and access ramp, and
  • construct the County Road 92 bridge over Highway 12.

Getting around the closures

Detours and access routes for people using Highway 12 and County Road 92 will vary depending on the road traveled. The signed detour routes are listed, and a map is provided below.

For people driving on Highway 12

  • Watertown Road (County Road 6)
  • South leg of County Road 92

For people driving on County Road 92

  • Watertown Road
  • County Road 90
  • County Road 11

Using the signed detour will keep you from experiencing additional delays and getting frustrated. It will also help local streets stay safe for the individuals and families who live and work in the area.

Temporary traffic signals on Watertown Road

Due to these traffic shifts, you will encounter temporary traffic signals at the intersections of Watertown Road and County roads 92, 90, 83 and 19. These traffic signals will remain in place until Highway 12 and County Road 92 reopen in the fall.

Maintaining local access

We will maintain access for people who live within the immediate construction area and emergency services during construction. This will be an active construction site, so there may be times when access is tightly controlled and driving surfaces may be uneven.

In addition, we will keep Highway 12 open between County Road 90 and Watertown Road (County Road 6) so people can continue to visit local businesses and destinations around Maple Plain and Independence.

If you are traveling around the area, please remember to allow yourself extra time to get to your destination, check signs regarding local access and drive safely around crews.
